X: The Crib

X: The Crib, 1987 - 2012  is an extension of the larger body of work entitled X: For My Father.  The work includes several photographs of the crib used during my childhood, including the photograph below, as well as the remaining slats of the peice from that were salvagable from the fire that occured in 2012.

The charcol used in the drawing is entirely derrived from the chared wooden slats.  In this way, metaphorically, I've allowed the ashes to be spread on the cliff overlooking the shore that now holds the crib in a constant oasis.  Referencing a reoccuring theme in my work - beginning times as a means to an end - the crib's head and foot are overly emphasised as tombstone-like shapes.
